Meet the Farmers: Munsterteiger Family

We are excited to introduce you to another one of our amazing farmer partners who raise 100% grass fed beef for the Grass Fed Cattle Co. Duane and Sheila Munsterteiger, along with their son Tony, run Pleasurewoods Farm near Ogilvie, MN. They have been farming now for over 45 years and began when Duane was 13 years old, raising Holstein steers. 

Over the years, Duane's production model changed from a more conventional model to a regenerative model that builds soil and improves the land for future generations while also producing beef that is high quality, nutrient-dense and tastes amazing! Tony shared, “Our main goal is raising the highest quality beef we can and caring for the land.”

We often talk about raising beef regeneratively. For the Munsterteiger family, it all starts with choosing cows that thrive in their north central Minnesota environment. These intentionally chosen cows give birth in late spring on open pastures and woods where calves have space to bond with their mothers and aren’t at risk of winter cold. The animals are fed fresh grass, rotationally grazing pastures all summer and fall. In the winter, they are fed on hay out on the fields and in the woods, leaving the nutrients on the land where they belong and building soil for the future. The animals that are raised for meat are finished on intensive grazing of alfalfa fields and diverse pastures throughout the summer. No antibiotics or hormones are given to any of their cattle. These intentional practices result in tender, flavorful beef that is lower in saturated fats and higher in omega-3s, omega-6s and antioxidants compared to grain fed beef.

The Munsterteiger family has been raising beef for us at Grass Fed Cattle Co. for several years and we are so grateful for their consistently high quality beef!
